NEF Tub Solid 23L Black | Compact Hydroponic Reservoir and Mixing Tub Australia
NEF Tub Solid 23L Black | Compact Hydroponic Reservoir and Mixing Tub Australia
The NEF Tub Solid 23L Black is a compact food-grade black plastic tub used across Australian hydroponic setups as a small nutrient reservoir, mixing container, propagation base, or standalone grow tub. The solid base holds liquid without drainage, making it suitable for reservoir applications where the larger NEF 45L is more than you need. Black construction prevents algae growth by blocking light from reaching the solution inside.
Where the 23L Size Makes Sense
The 23L tub sits between a standard bucket and the NEF 45L tub in capacity. For single-plant DWC setups, small recirculating systems, pH and nutrient mixing stations, or cuttings propagation with the Large Humidity Crib, 23 litres is the right volume. Large reservoirs can be harder to manage with small systems because the solution-to-plant ratio is too high, making EC and pH harder to stabilise quickly. A 23L reservoir matched to a 1 to 2 plant system gives you tighter control.
The 23L tub also fits inside most grow tents as a mixing or catch container without taking up significant floor space. For growers running recirculating systems that need a separate mixing reservoir distinct from the main system tank, the 23L is the standard choice.
Compatible Accessories
The NEF lid (sold separately as Lids to suit 23/45/65L) fits the 23L tub for covered reservoir applications. The Large Humidity Crib also fits the 23L tub as a propagation dome for cuttings and seedlings. For larger reservoir needs, see the NEF Solid 45L and 65L Tub Reservoir.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the NEF 23L food grade? Yes. NEF tubs are manufactured from food-grade plastic suitable for contact with hydroponic nutrient solutions.
What is the difference between the solid and grated NEF tubs? The solid tub has a solid base for holding liquid. The grated tub has a perforated base designed as a drainage insert to sit inside the solid tub, creating a flood and drain chamber or root zone aeration layer above the reservoir.
Can I use the 23L tub for DWC? Yes. The 23L volume is appropriate for a single-plant DWC setup. Cut holes in the lid for net pots and an air stone, connect an air pump, and the 23L tub functions as a compact DWC reservoir. See our DWC hydroponics guide for setup instructions.
